2012 Class Offerings

Spring 2012 First Mondays

First Mondays is a workshop series for teenage actors looking to sharpen and build their skills on stage.  The Willows Theatre Conservatory will present a different Master Class on the first Monday of each month.  Each workshop is focused on a different theatre skill set and is taught by a Bay Area theatre professional.  Students will receive the highest level of professional theatre training in our intimate two-hour workshops.  Class sizes are limited so that each participant may receive as much individual attention as possible.  The workshops meet from 6 pm – 8 pm at one of the company’s three theatre spaces.  Students may sign up for one class at a time, or may register for a four-class package at a reduced rate.  Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to sharpen your skills and work with some of the Bay Area’s most accomplished theatre professionals!

Broadway Song & Dance (Grades 3-5)

Love to sing and dance?  Then this is the class for you!  Learn the fundamentals of acting, singing, and dancing in this fun class designed for the young musical theatre lover.  The aim of this course is to cultivate an enjoyment for musical theater through the study of a variety of Broadway repertoire.

Musical Theatre Fundamentals 2 (Grades 6-8)

This class is designed for students who have taken previous classes in drama or musical theatre.  Using songs from Broadway musicals (and maybe even one or two from Glee!), students learn the fundamentals of acting, singing, and dancing.  Students perform both solo and group numbers in this fun and exciting class, which aims to promote presence and self-confidence.  The class culminates in a fully-staged and choreographed musical theatre revue.  Pre-requisite: Musical Theatre FUNdamentals or Broadway Song & Dance.  New students wishing to take this class must contact the Conservatory Director before registering.

 Drama FUNdamentals (Grades 2-6)

This class provides a terrific introduction to the basics of acting.  Whether you are a natural diva, or need help coming out of your shell, the techniques learned in this class can be applied to the stage as well as everyday life.  Each fun-filled class revolves around the two main tenants of theatre - "Be seen and be heard."  Students will learn improvisation, theater games, story-telling, vocal projection, character movement, and other aspects of dramatic training designed to expand the imagination and spark creativity.

Drama FUNdamentals 2 (Grades 4-7)

The advanced level of Drama FUNdamentals is the perfect follow-up to our beginning course!  Students build on the principles there were introduced to in the first level of the class, by continuing to explore characters, movement, and stage presence.  In this class, students will begin to work on scripted scenes, in addition to continuing to work on their improvisation skills.  Students will work on scenes from popular plays, films, and television shows; as well as writing their own original scenes.  The class will culminate in a festival of all of these theatrical works.  Pre-requisite: Drama FUNdamentals.  New students wishing to take this class must contact the Conservatory Director before registering.

Musical Theatre Dance (Grades 7-12)

This exciting new class is perfect for older students who are looking to improve their dance skills.  The most successful performers are the most versatile, and dance is an essential skill for every actor.  In this class, we will explore a wide array of dance styles found in musical theatre – from jazz, to hip hop, to ballet, to tap.  Musical Theatre Dance is offered as a 4-week intensive to accommodate young actors’ busy schedules.  Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to become a musical theatre triple threat!
